The Code of Champions: Official Rules for Checkmate Champs Online Tournaments
Welcome, aspiring Grandmasters and tactical maestros, to the battleground of Checkmate Champs! To ensure a fair, exhilarating, and prestigious experience for all participants, we've outlined the official rules for our monthly online tournaments. By registering and participating, you agree to adhere to these guidelines, ensuring a level playing field and the integrity of competitive chess.
Tournament Format & Schedule
Format: Our monthly tournaments will be played in the Arena format.
Time Control: Prepare for fast-paced action with a 5 Blitz time control (5 minutes of total time).
Duration: Each tournament will run for one hour of intense competition.
Platform: Tournaments will primarily be hosted on Lichess.org. Please note that the platform may be subject to change, and any updates will be communicated well in advance.
Scoring & Arena Mechanics
Our tournaments utilize the dynamic Lichess Arena scoring system designed for exciting play:
Win: A standard win earns 2 points.
Draw: A draw earns 1 point.
Loss: A loss earns 0 points. Berserk Option will not be available.
Streak Bonus: Achieve greatness with the Streak Bonus!
After two consecutive wins, you will activate a double point streak, indicated by a flame icon.
Subsequent wins will be worth 4 points, and draws will be worth 2 points, as long as your winning streak continues.
A loss will reset your streak. For example, two wins followed by a draw will net you 6 points (2 + 2 + (2 × 1)).
Rated Games: All tournament games will be rated, contributing to your Lichess rating and showcasing your skill.
How the Tournament Works
Pairing:
At the beginning of the tournament, players are paired based on their rating.
As soon as you finish a game, return to the tournament lobby; you will then be paired with a player close to your ranking. This ensures minimum wait time; however, you may not face all other players in the tournament.
Play fast and return to the lobby to play more games and win more points.
Ending the Tournament:
The tournament has a countdown clock. When it reaches zero, the tournament rankings are frozen, and the winner is announced.
Games in progress when the clock runs out must be finished, however they do not count for the tournament.
Deciding the Winner:
The player(s) with the most points after the tournament's set time limit will be announced the winner(s).
When two or more players have the same number of points, the tournament performance rating is used as the tie-break.
Other Important Rules
First Move Countdown: There is a countdown for your first move. Failing to make a move within this time will forfeit the game to your opponent.
Early Draws: Drawing the game within the first 10 moves will earn neither player any points.
Draw Streaks: When a player has consecutive draws in an arena, only the first draw will result in a point. This draw streak can only be broken by a win, not by a loss or another draw.
